The practical consumption is estimated by multiplying the theoretical consumption with the relevant Consumption Factor (CF). The CF depends on a number of external conditions waviness of paint film, size, and shape of the surface, the surface roughness of the substrate, physical losses and cannot be stated in the product data-sheet as the variation is too great to be represented by one single figure.

Consumption of paints (theoretical and practical):
THE FORMULA FOR PRACTICAL CONSUMPTION IS :
( Area * Dry Film Thickness * Consumption Factor ) / ( Volume Solids * 10 ) = Total Consumption
THE FORMULA FOR THEORETICAL PAINT CONSUMPTION IS :
( Area * Dry Film Thickness ) / ( Volume Solids * 10 ) = Theoretical Paint Consumption
